Frequently Asked Questions
Earnings per share (EPS) is a company's net profit divided by its shares outstanding — the profit attributable to each share you own — and this screen ranks PSX companies from the highest down. A large EPS reflects strong absolute earnings, but on its own it says nothing about value: a Rs 400 EPS on a Rs 7,000 share is a very different proposition from a Rs 40 EPS on a Rs 200 one. That is why EPS is best read alongside the price through the P/E ratio, and alongside the growth rate, so you can see whether earnings are rising or simply large. Watch for one-off gains and for share-count changes — a bonus issue lowers EPS mechanically — and check several years of results on each stock page. EPS refreshes with quarterly results. For the valuation lens on the same earnings, see Lowest P/E.
Earnings per share = Net income ÷ shares outstanding. It shows how much profit each share has earned.
High EPS reflects strong earnings, but also compare price (P/E) and growth rate to assess value.
Diluted EPS includes potential shares from convertibles and options; basic EPS counts only outstanding common shares.
